Monster Apocalypse Survival Guide Vol.1

How long have you been locked down since around 2020? Two months, ten months it depends on where you are and how you like to live these days but not seven years that's for sure. Because Joel Dawson did. He was locked down in the underground for 7 (!) years, then went on a journey for 7 days on the surface. No he was not inspired from a book, nor a tv show.. . And I didn't know what I was expecting from the movie.

I truly recommend it, for all kind of movie lovers it has a little bit for all of us!

For those who haven't seen or heard yet (lol, it's been two days since the movie is available on Netflix almost worldwide) "Love and Monsters" is a 2020 production sci-fi / action film. But it has so many elements that makes it difficult t classify under a couple genres. There is a lot of (I'm going to be subjective here) fun, adventure, a little horror and of course, love.

I have to say, I don't think I should be watching movies instead of studying but when I saw Dylan O'Brien united again with Labyrinth-ish movie I couldn't help myself but clicking the Play button. The name "Love and Monsters" may be the worst thing about the movie, but I don't want to higher up expectations either. I watched it without any a priori, as I like to watch any movie that gets my attention. I usually see the critics after, but then again, I haven't had the chance because I'm so psyched right now.

Joel ( Dylan O'Brien) is on of the few survivors from the apocalypse. You may think, apocalypse, leaving in bunkers in colony / not being able to travel a couple miles etc. is so cliché, but don't worry, even the you think the plot is familiar it's worth watching every second.

Anyway, 7 years ago while Joel is trying to make love to his girlfriend after a wonderful date in a car, military forces are trying to blow up a giant asteroid (Agatha 616, I know so obvious) with rockets because that's what we know how to handle stuff. Of course, I'm pretty sure they're living in a lifetime where everyone has forgotten the catastrophic effects of atomic bombs and Tchernobyl, or the X-Men comics no longer available so nobody calculates what may come afterwards, that there might me some chemical effects. (Un)Fortunately, only the cold-blooded creatures has been affected : Cats are now food for fishes!

So Joel, he gets separated from his lover Aimee Jessica Henwick, with an I and two Es, and promises to find her one day.

He does it.

He gets in communication with her colony.

And then he decides to actually go and see her, see if they can get keep up from where they have left of.

Alone, people act as if he's crazy. All his roomies judge and warn him because he's not a fighter nor a fligher.

He's a freezer.

I had been emotionally challenged with this movie, even though mostly it was fun it made me think of a lot of things. It was heartwarming, seeing our frozen Joel growing into a courageous Podcaster.

In this familiar apocalypse story, there are many unexpected things on the road. The supporting characters Clyde Michael Rooker and Minnow Ariana Greenblatt are playing such key roles and put a little joy and hope to the script. The rule number 2 : Never Both may actually be useful for a lot of daily challenges and don't forget just like Needle through water . I don't want to tell the whole story, you can look it up or go see the movie yourself but I've got so satisfied that I felt like I had to share some words. What you believe can get you moving for a goal after many years of standing still. Disregarding anyone else's beliefs you can achieve what you want if you put it in your head and do it with your heart ( or vice-versa). You realize, the journey sometimes means more than the end, if you can step back and see what you have seen and learnt, it worths all the trouble.

And Boy, oh Boy! There is a doggo, you don't even ask yourself how he survived so long, but he's another hero to applause.

Mav1s, we all need a Mav1s in life! A little Stand By Me https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hwZNL7QVJjE , and 15 mins of emotional comfort session. I loved graphical details and well, flying jellos (Sky Jellies). I'm not fan of the Queen yet again I would love to have one copy of Monster Apocalypse Survival Guide Vol.1 no matter how ugly and scary the beasts are.

By the way, NOO he's not a food thief. He's a romantic <3. Everything for a girl.

It's best to seek out for those who steal anyway, just in case if a sequel comes up. I would want a Vol.2 and couldn't wait to see if it actually comes!

I truly recommend it, for all kind of movie lovers it has a little bit for all of us!

Here's my favorite scene :

Enjoy the watching!
